From Waste to Valuable Material: The 2026 Repair & Upcycling Festival in Kiel Celebrates Circularity
On May 9th, the Anschar Campus in Kiel transformed into vivid proof that waste is often just a matter of perspective. “Was that an elephant in the building just now?” — many visitors asked in bewilderment. The loud trumpeting wasn’t an animal, but the soundtrack of the repair and upcycling festival, where children and young people created new musical instruments from old objects. Over 600 visitors used the sunny Saturday not just to observe, but to actively participate in over 25 interactive formats. The workshops showed how new functions and aesthetics can emerge from broken laptops, old wood, damaged bicycles, and plastic remnants.

Tallinn Business Incubator opens exhibition on circular economy
Tallinn Business Incubator has opened a circular economy-themed exhibition as the first display in the exhibition hall of its new building. Created within the framework of the Creative Circular Cities (CCC) project, the exhibition invites both businesses and city residents to explore the principles of the circular economy and discover new opportunities in the field. The exhibition was produced by the Tallinn Business Incubator and Heya Visual.

Creative Circular Cities at the EUSBSR Forum 2026 Networking Village
The Creative Circular Cities project participated in the Networking Village during the 2026 Annual Forum of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region, which took place on 11 to 13 May in Tallinn, bringing together more than 500 participants from across the region.

CCC partners share lessons learned and prepare for the final project phase at Transition Lab in Gdynia
From 30 March to 1 April, the “Creative Circular Cities” (CCC) project partners met in Gdynia, Poland, for the final CCC Transition Lab. After more than two years of collaboration across the Baltic Sea Region, the meeting provided an opportunity to reflect on progress, prepare for the project’s final phase and plan how to sustain and expand activities beyond the project’s lifetime.

CCC inspires new ideas for citizen engagement at Urban Future 2026
On 24-27 March, The Creative Circular Cities (CCC) team took part in the Urban Future Festival 2026 in Ljubljana, one of Europe’s leading gatherings for urban changemakers, city leaders, innovators and sustainability practitioners. This year’s event brought together more than 2000 participants from across Europe and beyond to explore topics such as city centre development, tactical urbanism, circularity, resilient societies, innovation in governance and climate communication. For the CCC partnership, it was a valuable opportunity to share practical insights on how creativity and citizen engagement can help cities accelerate the transition to a circular economy.

“Creatives in Circularity B2B Exchange” strengthens cross-border collaboration between creatives in the Baltic Sea Region
On 18-19 February 2026, creatives from across the Baltic Sea Region gathered in Tallinn, Estonia, for the “Creatives in Circularity” B2B Exchange. The event provided a space for creative professionals to connect, exchange ideas, and explore how the cultural and creative sectors can contribute to circular economy solutions. The event was organised by the Northern Dimension Partnership on Culture in collaboration with the Danish Cultural Institute in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania and “Creative Circular Cities” (CCC) project partners.

Transition Lab in Turku explores continuing circular economy activities after the end of the project
On 1 and 2 of December, Creative Circular Cities (CCC) project partners met in Turku for the CCC Transition Lab, where they reflected on the progress of project activities in the cities so far and explored how to support the creativity-led transition to circular economy after the conclusion of the CCC project.

From 19 to 22 October 18 creative professionals from Gdynia, Riga, Kiel, Tallinn, and Turku will attend one of the largest design events in Europe – the Dutch Design Week (DDW) in Eindhoven, which is particularly known for promoting experimental materials and sustainable innovation.

Repair and Upcycling festival in Kiel: a vibrant celebration of circular economy
On 10 May our Kiel project partners — Anscharcampus, Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung and Zero Waste Kiel e.V. — hosted an inspiring and energetic Repair & Upcycling Festival, drawing over 750 visitors who came together to embrace sustainable practices and advance the ethos of the circular economy.
